2008-2009 Local ProgramChildren At Risk in Montgomery CountyAll-Day Kindergarten -- Continued support of our position statement regarding the need for All-Day Kindergarten, as well as the state League position on Mandatory Kindergarten. All-Day Kindergarten Position Statement (April 2005) LWVIN Position - Mandatory Kindergarten Alternative Education/High School Drop-Out Rate -- Completion of our 2007-08 study on alternative education options. Two public/member meetings are planned for Fall 2008. Sex Education in our Schools -- Continued monitoring of the AIDS/Safe & Drug-Free Schools Advisory Committees at the three county school corporations. Economic Health of Montgomery CountyEconomic Health -- Continued support of our position statement regarding growth and development issues in the county. Economic Health Position Statement Small Community Outreach -- Continued outreach to the small communities (towns and townships) in our county using the “Build A Better Community” model and continued support of the Small Communities Network. Health Care in Montgomery CountyHealth Care -- Continued support for improving health care in the county. Completion of a “Fast Facts on Emergency Preparedness” brochure is planned. Land Use in Montgomery CountyDrainage -- Continued support of our position statement regarding the administration of drainage in the county. Land Use/Planning Position Statement (November 1989) Presentation on Crawfordsville's 2025 Comprehensive Plan (476 Kb PDF, Adobe Reader Required) (August 2007) Local Government Reorganization in Montgomery CountyTownship Trustee Study -- 1-year study on the duties, costs, benefits, and questions of concern regarding the county’s Township Trustees. As part of the study, the committee will prepare a report giving specific detail for our county related to the recommendations of the Kernan-Shepard Report on Local Government Reform. Outlook for work includes a membership consensus meeting, then release of the final report to the public and media. |
